Lucina was originally a god of childbirth, but later became an epithet for Juno. Thus, expectant mothers prayed to Juno to aid in childbirth.

An interestingly crude example of a normally well-produced type. When researching other examples sold at auction, it becomes apparent that examples of typical fine Roman production are of full weight, while those that are more crudely produced better match the weight of a dupondius.

This type celebrates Caracalla's fifth anniversary as joint emperor with Severus, as well as the imperial family's return to Rome from the East that year, which was by ship.
