Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt Cleopatra VII 51-30 B.C. Tetradrachm VF -- #AC106556
AR Tetradrachm 27mm. 12.07g. Alexandria Mint RY17 (36/35 B.C.) Diademed head of idealized king r., aegis around neck; dotted border around.
Eagle standing l. on thunderbolt, palm branch over shoulder; LI (chi) (regnal year 17) - (pi)A across fields, headdress of Isis below to l. BASILEWS PTOLEMAIOU CPE 1709; Svoronos 1831; SNG Copenhagen 413 VF. Gray toning. Attractive despite issues. Some light porosity and minor roughness. Obverse shows some light smoothing, particularly along profile. This series has long been attributed to a joint reign between Cleopatra VII and her son with Julius Caesar, Ptolemy XV Caesarion, but as Cleopatra was the 'real' ruler during this period and regnal dates on the coins are hers alone, Lorber considers them sole issues of Cleopatra VII Thea Neotera. While this coin's date is shared by those of her predecessor, Ptolemy XII, the longer flowing hair on the bust is a stylistic change dated to RY12 of Cleopatra VII and continued until her death.

Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt Syria Damaskos (Damascus) Cleopatra VII 51-30 B.C. AE22 Fine -- #AC106811
AE22 22mm. 8.36g. Damascus mint. SE280 (33/2 B.C.) Diademed and draped bust of Cleopatra VII, r.
Turreted Tyche of Damascus seated on rock l., extending r. hand and holding cornucopia in l., river god Chrysorrhoas swimming r. at her feet; LPS (date) over aphlaston to l.; all within wreath. DAMASKHNWN CPE B844; RPC I 4783 Fine. Rare. Dark brown patina with some earthen fill. Moderate roughness. This rare issue struck in Cleopatra VII's image was produced at Damascus for a single year. While this example has some roughness, the date, aphlaston symbol, and much of the legend are clear. The Ptolemaic province of Syria and Phoenicia was gifted by Mark Antony to Kleopatra VII Thea Neotera in the winter of 37-36 B.C. but she is not known to have controlled Damascus. As such, her Damascene issues are still not fully understood.

Ptolemaic Cyprus temp. Ptolemy VIII to Cleopatra VII ca. mid 2nd-1st Centuries B.C. Chalkous VF -- #AC105887
AE Chalkous 13mm. 1.95g. Paphos Mint Small draped bust of Aphrodite Paphia r., wearing stephane.
Narrow double cornucopiae, ends of diadem falling on r. BASILEWS PTOLEMAIOU CPE B725; Svoronos 1160 var. VF. Dark green-gray patina. Typical light porosity. Flan void on reverse. A later issue of the type with cruder manufacture. This type was once attributed to Ptolemy IV when it was believed to portray Arsinoe III. Later scholarship determined that the coin may portray Cleopatra VII, but that assertion has now been refuted. The abundance of these coins found on Cyprus and the lack of similarity to Cleopatra's typical portraits have led Lorber to reattribute the female portrait to Aphrodite of Paphos.
