Nabataean culture centered at the city of Petra (Arabia Patraea) in modern day Jordan, well-known for its temples carved into rock faces. This kingdom remained autonomous until the period of Domitian.

Fine. Rare. Dark brown patina with some earthen fill. Moderate roughness. This rare issue struck in Cleopatra VII's image was produced at Damascus for a single year. While this example has some roughness, the date, aphlaston symbol, and much of the legend are clear.

The Ptolemaic province of Syria and Phoenicia was gifted by Mark Antony to Kleopatra VII Thea Neotera in the winter of 37-36 B.C. but she is not known to have controlled Damascus. As such, her Damascene issues are still not fully understood.
