Antiochos VI was the son of Alexander Balas and Cleopatra Thea and was placed on the throne by Seleukid usurper Tryphon when he was just 4 or 5 years old. Tryphon had Antiochos put to death around age 7-9 after Tryphon's rival, Demetrios II, was defeated, leaving Tryphon free to declare himself king.
