Dietrichstein is a tiny location in Carinthia (Kaernten) in Austria. The name represents a ruling family, moreso than a region. The Dietrichstein family ruled Olmutz for part of the 17th Century. |

AR Fantasy Plug 1 Bit (Shilling) 19mm. 5.69g. Vintage Forgery Giant T (resembling Tortola Black Dogg) hand-engraved into an allegedly silver disc. Blank, with tooling marks. Cf. Pridmore 7 (Tortola), and Pridmore 4 (Trinidad) VF. A fairly crudely made fantasy, not deceptive to knowledgeable collectors. Probably a late 19th or early 20th century fantasy/forgery from the Zay era, intended to fool naive collectors. This piece weighs twice what a Trinidad bit should be, but resembles more closely the countermark on a Tortola Black Dogg (thin billon)! |
